Welcome to February’s goal setting report where I show you progress on last month’s goals, how I set goals, and set new goals for the month.

If you’re new to Burke Does, you may be wondering why I would want to publish my month goals and share my failures and vulnerabilites right with my successes. You can simply skip to the next section if you’re not new here.

This all started out as I learned to set goals. After many months of setting goals where I was never successful, I have learned to set goals that are meaningful and help me towards my bigger aim. I use my Powersheets from the Cultivate What Matters shop to help me stay focused on my big picture goals.

I set weekly goals over on Emilie’s To Do Lists. This is part of my goal-setting system. I set my big-picture (6-month or 12-month) goals at the beginning of each year. Every month, I spend time deciphering what I will take on to get me towards my bigger goals by setting the monthly goals you will see below. Every week I actively work towards my goals by making a plan to do so.

I use the system that I learned in Asana for Bloggers to manage the different aspects of my life. As not-a-fulltime-blogger, I have to use productivity systems to help me manage my life. I spent most of my 2016 focusing on establishing productivity systems that helped me get to where I am today.

LAST MONTH’s Goals

Read // Read 2 Books. FAIL! While I did successfully read Gen BuY: How Tweens, Teens and Twenty-Somethings Are Revolutionizing Retail in the first two weeks of the month, I left The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up at home when I was traveling in the fourth week of the month- meaning that I did not read at all that week. Unfortunately, this means I fell short this month.

Financial // Maintain Emergency Fund at 1K for the entire month. SUCCESS! Is it silly that this feels like such a huge win? Perhaps, but after the couple of month’s I’ve had, it definitely is. Now on to regularly bigger paychecks and big debt payments again!!

Financial // Stick to Spending Budget and maintain Spending Log. MEH! I was good when I was home, but traveling and budget + logging gets hard. I did okay with the budget this month. I’m mostly happy with how I did!

BD // Launch new thingFAIL! So the person working with me on the thing had a baby (yay!), but that also means that she got really busy real fast and the thing got delayed. Hopefully next month.

BD // Make a plan for full portfolio of sites. MEH! So full list of sites: 1. Burke Does, 2. What the Stitch, 3. The American Rugby Referee, 4. Emilie Burke. I made progress on 1 & 3; 2 will be it’s own thing and has no plan at the moment (and that’s how I want it). My portfolio site needs the most immediate work, but I also didn’t work on a plan for it either. It is on my On Hold list now, so hopefully soon!

Productivity // Track one 168 Hour Week. FAIL. I did not do this this month, BUT I will be doing it next month (the week of February 6) with my friend Bailey who also read I Know How She Does It by Laura Vanderkam recently. I can’t wait.

Professional // Stay on-track on One Month Python CourseFAIL. I did not stay on track. I’m half way through the course and I hope to keep making progress.

Want to learn how to code? Learn from the awesome teachers at One Month. Their Premium Courses are worth the investment. I suggest that people start with One Month HTML.

Professional // Work on IGC <> TL event. FAIL. Okay, so there’s only so much I can do here. I’m waiting on other people.

Giving // Identify places to volunteer in Raeford. FAIL. I was gone so much in January that no progress was made here. There’s so much turmoil going on in our world right now. If you’re looking for causes to support immediately, can I suggest the Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys? Your dollars will go directly to supporting boys who are regularly being failed by their public school system.

Stitching // Finish North Carolina Needlepoint Ornament. MEH. I made some progress! You can see it here. I’m down to only the blue outside to do.

February’s Goals

Read // Read 2 Books. I am going to finish The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up this week and then am open to suggestions for the second book.

Financial // Have $$$ Set Aside for House Expenses. We’re buying a house!! I am trying to aggressively set aside some money for it. I’m hoping that if all my tax stuff comes through, I can file more quickly!

Pray // Write down my prayers for 5 minutes 10 mornings this month. I’ve been struggling with my prayer life, so this is me making a conscientious effort.

Fitness // Crossfit 16x this month. You know, getting my fitness on! Also, keeping in mind that I’m traveling for at least four days this month.

Fitness // Trial ROMWOD. I think I’m going to do this while in Nashville and then continue it to supplement my workouts if I like it.

BD // Launch email series on BD. I’ve been trying to make this happen and I have a feeling this month is it.

BD // Make a plan for full portfolio of sites. See description above^

Stitching // Finish North Carolina Needlepoint Ornament. That’s the goal!
