I fell a bit off the Fit For Me series bandwagon, but I really do like writing them, so I’m hoping to get back into them. It keep me accountable to you, my most wonderful reader, and to Anna and Angie who joined in with me on this adventure.
How are my current workouts? Right now, I’m working out about four mornings per week. Each day has a different theme and while it’s changed over time, right now I am doing one push day, one pull day, one leg day, and one circuit day. I’ve been focusing on stability, which is waaaaaay out of my comfort zone.
Probably the best thing I’ve ever done for my workout was start working with Demi of Demi Leigh Fitness. (I know her site is a work in progress, so don’t knock it just yet.) Demi worked with me and my goals to build a workout plan and an eating plan that fits exactly what I want. It takes the decision making out of working out, and I never need to think.
I workout before work in the mornings. I’ve found that if I try to workout after work, I’m just way too tired. As a result, my mornings look something like this:
6:00 AM – First iPhone Alarm
6:03 AM – Second iPhone Alarm
6:05 AM – The actual get up alarm
6:07 AM – The radio automatically comes on. The noise helps me wake up.
I get up, brush my teeth, and stumble to the kitchen where I start prepping my breakfast, usually oatmeal and eggwhites. While that’s cooking, I head back to my room and change into the clothes I had already laid out the night before. By the time I come back into the kitchen, breakfast is ready. I pop in head phones and a podcast to listen to while I eat. I’m cognizant of the fact that my roommate is still asleep.
After breakfast, I want to give my food a little bit of time to get settled before I go workout. I layout my clothes for work and any additional stuff I might need.
6:55 AM – My warning alarm goes off
7:00 AM – Alarm goes off, I’m now on call for work and can’t be away from my phone.
7:15 AM – Head down to the gym. I am almost always there before 7:30 AM and that’s really important to me. I pick out something from the Comcast On-Demand to be the show I’m going to watch during the workout. I’m usually the only person there (sometimes people tricking in around 8:15).
While at the gym: I warm up on the elliptical for about 10 minnutes. (I haaaaate the treadmill. I don’t mind cardio, but I don’t like the treadmill. Anyone else feel this way?) Then I move on to the meat of my workout for the day and really try to push myself. Finally, I wrap up by doing 15 minutes of HIITs on the elliptical. If I’m in the mood to torture-myself, I’ll do it on the treadmill.
8:30 AM – I wrap up my workout, head back to my apartment, and have breakfast #2, usually a protein shake and a banana. Then I hope in the shower and get ready for work. I’m on my way to the office by 9:30 most days.
