As I mentioned in my goals for the month, January’s theme was about establishing a routine, so I will be sharing bits of that routine in the coming month! It was not that long ago that I shared my morning routine, but it’s crazy how much it has changed in the last month!
I have long been a subscriber to the my morning routine email list. Every so-often, I get an email of someone’s morning routine followed by a couple of questions, so today’s post will be modeled after those. I really enjoy that email list and would strongly recommend it.

What is your morning routine?
My alarms start going off at 5 AM. I trying to get up by 515. I leave the radio on until I’m awake enough to turn on a podcast. My first priority after washing my face and brushing my teeth is to get food in my belly for Breakfast #1, which usually consists of oatmeal. I get dressed in workout gear and bundle up to make the 15 minute trek to the gym. I try to be out of my apartment by 615 every morning. At 730, I’m wrapping up my workout and rushing home in time to shower and get ready for work. By 845, I’m on Breakfast #2 (eggs and a protein shake) and packing my lunch for work. At 910, I’m bundling up so that I can head down to the office. I’m usually there by 930.
How long have you stuck with this routine so far?
Since the beginning of the month and I’m loving it.
How has your morning routine changed over recent years?
What time do you go to sleep?
I’m much better about waking up on schedule than I am on going to bed on-time. I try to be in bed between 930 and 1030. I am almost always asleep by 11.
Do you do anything before going to bed to make your morning easier?
I try to lay out my clothes for working out and for the office the night before. I also use an Essential Oils Diffuser* with lavender every night! I turn it on about a half our before bed!
Do you use an alarm to wake you up in the morning, and if so do you ever hit the snooze button?
I swear by my alarm clock. As I’ve gotten older (lol, I’m 22 but feel like I’m 40), I use Philips Wake-Up Light, White* and it has been a game changer. I hate hate hate hate hate waking up to a dark room, so this alarm clock makes my room, at least, tolerable, in the mornings, even though it’s not as bright as I’d like. My room faces the sun perfectly, so I can’t wait for the sun to start waking up early again!!
How soon after waking up do you have breakfast, and what do you typically have?
I try to eat almost right away so that my food can settle a little before working out. My first breakfast, pre-workout, is usually oatmeal and my second breakfast, post-workout is usually eggs and a protein shake.
Do you have a morning workout routine?
Yes! It’s the reason I wake up SO early each morning. I am really lucky to work with an amazing trainer in Demi from Demi Leigh Fitness (website still under construction) who builds amazing workout plans that guide me so well! It takes the planning out of working out. One less blocker!
Do you have a morning meditation routine, and if so what kind of meditation do you practice?
No, I guess this is something I should work on.
Do you answer email first thing in the morning, or leave it until later in the day?
I’m on call at 7 AM every morning, so I always check m
Do you use any apps or products to enhance your sleep or morning routine?
I’m really bad at doing things every day, so I use Momentum to help me track daily habits! Also, I often wake up with thoughts that I don’t want to forget so I put them in Letterspace and then sort through them later on.
How soon do you check your phone in the morning?
Right away. I know, I know. Terrible, but my just checking to see that I didn’t miss anything important, I give myself the freedom to leave my phone until 7, which is when I’m on-call for work.
What are your most important tasks in the morning?
Breakfast. The end.
What and when is your first drink in the morning?
Usually water. I don’t drink coffee. On cold mornings, I sometimes have hot chocolate, but since I don’t like the idea of consuming caffeine if that is a sometimes-sort-of-thing.
Do you also follow this routine on weekends, or do you change some steps?
Saturdays always seem to have something going on, so they’re pretty flexible. On Sundays, I sleep in a little bit more before going to mass at 9 AM and then an agility class after.
On days you’re not settled in your home, are you able to adapt your routine to fit in with a different environment?
I don’t travel too much for work. Most of the time that I’m not home, I’m visiting Casey and then there is absolutely no routine. None. It’s SO HARD to be on someone else’s schedule.
What do you do if you fail to follow your morning routine, and how does this influence the rest of your day?
I get so cranky if I don’t go through my routine! So cranky!
What fun tidbits do you have to share about your morning routine?
