November 2017 Goals

November 11, 2017
AUTHOR: Emilie

Welcome to November’s goal setting report where I show you progress on last month’s goals, how I set goals, and set new goals for the month.

If you’re new to Burke Does, you may be wondering why I would want to publish my month goals and share my failures and vulnerabilites right with my successes. You can simply skip to the next section if you’re not new here.

This all started out as I learned to set goals. After many months of setting goals where I was never successful, I have learned to set goals that are meaningful and help me towards my bigger aim. I use my Powersheets from the Cultivate What Matters shop to help me stay focused on my big picture goals.

I set weekly goals over on Emilie’s To Do Lists. This is part of my goal-setting system. I set my big-picture (6-month or 12-month) goals at the beginning of each year. Every month, I spend time deciphering what I will take on to get me towards my bigger goals by setting the monthly goals you will see below. Every week I actively work towards my goals by making a plan to do so.

I use the system that I learned in Asana for Bloggers to manage the different aspects of my life. As not-a-fulltime-blogger, I have to use productivity systems to help me manage my life. I spent most of my 2016 focusing on establishing productivity systems that helped me get to where I am today.

October’s Goals

Read 3 books ❎ I only read two books this month. They were Ben Sasse’s The Vanishing American Adult and Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People. I also started Geoffrey Moore’s Crossing the Chasm, but I’m barely a quarter of the way into it.

Start using Momentum App again to track daily habits ❎ I’m at this crossroads with technology and while I’ve been tracking this stuff in my tending list, I’m struggling with using it in Momentum, probably because I don’t have a *why* for double tracking.

Blog 5 times ✅ Yes! Finally! I published 8 blog posts this month. They were: A Different Way of Goal Setting, October 2017 Goals, I Said Yes, Equifax Data Breach, Prepping for Conferences, Start Saving in a Cinch, Brasil 2017, and October 2017 Debt Repayment.

Finish the Copy Course that I’m working on ✅ Yep yep! I finished the course AND I finished solid first drafts of the copy for the new site that I’m working on.

Finalize Wedding Budget with Casey ❎ We haven’t been together, but we’re on the same page. I just want to nitty gritty map out some more numbers and details.

Financial projections for my business ❎ Well this was kinda an expensive month with all the travel, but I knew that was coming. Somehow, I made it through the month with money left over. I didn’t, though, get the chance to do financial projections, which I hope to do this month, but some important things are changing, so I’m not sure that it will be possible.

Try to identify one more source of income ✅ YES! No comments here though.

Finish Udacity Course ❎ I actually haven’t made progress on this over the course of the last two weeks, though I started the month strong. With the copy course wrapped up, I’ll move forward on this more aggressively.

November’s Goals

The word of the year I set for myself was FOCUS. I think this is still true. In fact, I think that this refining of my goal setting approach is just a push for me to be even more focused! I set out to really tap into my state of focus this year, and I’m still working to get there.

What are my values?

The guiding values that I’ve set out for my year are:

  • Infinite Learning
  • Spirituality
  • Writing
  • Fitness
  • Charity
  • Financial
  • Reach
  • Managing Technology
  • Professional/Career

Which values do I want to work on this month?

  • Infinite Learning
  • Fitness
  • Writing
  • Financial

What goals do I want to set this month? How do those goals fit in with the values I want to work on this month?

  • Infinite Learning
    • Read 2 books
    • On track with Udacity Course
  • Fitness
    • Get back into a gym routine
  • Writing
    • Catch up on writing about the events I’ve attended
