For those of you who are unfamiliar, this post is part of a new series chronicling the evolution of my iPhone home screen over the year. As part of my year of no, I am actively working to minimize the time I spend on my phone. In the same way, you don’t have cookies in the house when you’re going on a diet, you can just eliminate the apps that are sucking you back into your phone.

I try to publish this on or around the 15th of the month. As you can see from the date on the calendar here, I got the screenshot then, but just have not gotten to writing. Better late than never!

The Dock

  • Calendar
  • Messages
  • Overcast
  • Safari

No change here.

The Right Side

RefiningFireTravel Folder

Lots of changes here!

I purged all the apps that I sometimes used. I wasn’t using Headspace even though I thought I might eventually. By admitting that I wasn’t using it and deleting it, I have cleared out space for other things!

Email wasn’t serving me, so I deleted it entirely from my phone. Yes, I haven’t had email on my phone since before the middle of the month! So far, so good.

I re-did some of my email workflow lately that has led to being picking Instapaper back up. I’m really pleased with the experience over Pocket.

The Folders

The folders got shifted around, but otherwise very little change

  • Apple
  • Pictures
  • Finance
  • Travel
  • Lifestyle
  • Fitness – Moved btwb, MindBody, MFP into this folder.
  • Entertainment

The only new folder here is Groceries. That is the result of consolidating all of my grocery-related apps (Ibotta, Kroger, and Shipt) into one app instead of taking of screen real estate. I don’t use these every day, and I feel this is a much cleaner approach.

Last Month’s New Additions

I’ve already mentioned Instapaper and Shipt.

I added co–star. Astrology can be entertaining.

I also deleted a bunch of photo-editing apps.

Still no second screen of apps!
